Tie a Yellow Ribbon

The two crows of Crownhill Fort
can't be told one from the other
so you must tie a yellow ribbon round an old crow's leg
either bird will do

To catch a crow, though,
is not easy
and once they spot you
looking            plotting
they keep a safe distance

However, you can hex them
with a clarinet
a melody
a beaky crow lullaby

Sleep little crow
Rest your head
Lie you down
Be you not as you are
so cautious

The studies stripped me
bound me to tolerate whirls of desert sand
but you were broken too

This clock-watching is hateful
an insult, dressed as courtesy

Steal your lump of flesh
go on, eat, digest
You will learn from someone else
when I'm forgotten
& eliminated
